Vengurles Crowford
Market is a small prototype of Mumbais famous Crowford Market situated
near victoria terminus From inside it has independent vegetable
& fish market . The two in one unique arrangementone cannot see
elshewhere in Sindhudurg & Ratnagiri District. |

In 1639 Dutch representative
John Van Tist visited Adilshahi Darbar & obtained the permission
to erect Dutch factory on the west coast. During this time bored
by Portuguese harresment some people fled from Goa to Vengurle &
begain working on Dutch ships. In 1665 Dutch traders chief Lindart
Johnson erected elegent looking structure known to be Dutch Wakhar.by
spending 3000 guilders (300 Tola Gold) & money was raised through
tradings as per the written evidence. This building reflects Potuguese,
Dutch & Local influences. On account of Dutch Vengurle & its business
rose to prosperity. Hence tied by the business relations between
Arabs, Europeans & Indians Vengurle is a historic town. |

Vengurle has always
been on a forefront in the nations freedom struggle. Father of the
nation Mahatma Gandhi visited Vengurle in 1927, Swatantra Vir Swarkar
in 1934 & Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1937. Pride of Vengurle is also
a heritage “ Sagar Bunglow” situated on the slopy rock on a small
hillock near seashore. It offers panomeric view of Arabian sea.Eminent
political leaders, poets, writers and artists had previlage in residing
in this bunglow. This graceful bunglow holds within itself a reflection
of colonial era. Besides Hapus Vengurle has its own veriety of mangoes
such as vengurle Paayree & Vengurle Mankur. Here one can catch sight
of Mango, cashewnuts, Mangosteen(kokam), Jambool trees & their processing
factories in the town & offcourse coconut groves nobody misses to
